in the Library Dining Room, the Crabtree Marriott Hotel. Any member, and guests with business welcome.
NOTE: Robert "Bob" Lesher '55, your webmaster and TYC board member, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Clayton on June 15.
In a letter to Bob's widow, Gloria, President Levin said: "Bob was truly a devoted and loyal alumnus, and his heartfelt work with activities of the Triangle Yale Club will be sorely missed."
AYA Executive Director Mark Dollhopf '77 wrote: "Bob was an extraordinary ambassador for Yale who contributed greatly to the wider community, beyond the local Yale alumni group. He leaves behind a legacy of volunteerism and commitment both in the Triangle area and in Denver."
Saturday, May 16, 2009. Here are some reflections on the day, provided by our alumni volunteers for Habitat For Humanity. More info, Steven.peretti@gmail.com:
"I wasn't very excited when my alarm went off at 6am on a Saturday, but by the time I got to the Habitat site in Pittsboro I was looking forward to doing some physical labor. It turned out to be a fun and truly satisfying day. The Americorps leaders were super instructors and all the Yale folks (and other volunteers) were friendly and great team players. It was a wonderful way to meet new people and give something to the community. I would definitely show up again for a similar day of service."
"Spending a day hammering and yammering was totally delightful. Habitat for Humanity works on so many levels, it is a privilege to be a participant. Look forward to the next time."
"It was a blast to do some construction, help show some novices how to do it. The team leaders were good, they had all the right tools, what a pleasure! Everyone was so mellow, no problems!"
"TODAY is the day after! Thank you for your organization and hands on leadership including getting this oaf up on the scaffold! (and a Grand Dad to boot as I remember) Do you have the name and address of our Americorp leader - I would like to thank him (and his leaders)."
"A wonderful event. The folks from Habitat for Humanity were tremendously welcoming and helpful. If the alums in the area do more service events in the future, I'll definitely attend."
"Thank you for a good day. I would like to join you again next time."
"It's been a long time since I'd volunteered for Habitat, and the experience was terrific. The project leaders were energetic and upbeat, the volunteers were a pleasure to meet and talk to, and the sense of shared work towards a common goal satisfies the soul. A wonderful day that I will gladly repeat, and soon!"
