Alumni Schools Committee

2006 Report from Reid and Cathering Lerner, both '99, ASC Chairs for Durham/Chapel Hill: The Alumni Schools Committee has been busy this year. We have seen an 8% increase in applications to 73 total, including 15 Early Action and 58 Regular Decision. We did not have any admissions from our early candidates, but we expect better results from a strong pool of candidates this spring.

Please Help with the Alumni Schools Committee

If you are a Yale College graduate and wish to assist the Office of Undergraduate Admissions recruit and interview prospective students to Yale, you should consider joining the Alumni Schools Committee. Philip S. J. Moriariy '62, '64 MA, a long-time ASC member, says, "The ASC experience enables members to keep current with issues and opportunities at Yale. As a goodwill ambassador for Yale, an informed alumnus can be a valuable asset to guidance counselors, teachers and administrators."

What is the Alumni Schools Committee?

The ASC is a network of Yale alumni volunteers that serves as a liaison between the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and local communities. There are 4,800 ASC members in 280 committees around the world. The ASC is an integral part of the admissions process. It is with the help of the ASC that Yale is able to build the best freshmen classes possible.

    What do ASC members do?

The primary responsibility of an ASC member is to conduct interviews assigned to them by their local ASC director for chairman. The Admissions Committee will take ASC interview reports, as well as other factors presented in each candidate's admissions application, into consideration when making final admissions decisions.

ASC members help spread the word about Yale by attending college fairs, visiting high schools, and speaking with interested students and parents.

ASC members also encourage admitted students to choose Yale as their college choice.

How much time does an ASC member spend on ASC work?

We ask that ASC members commit to a minimum of 15 hours per year to ASC work.

Who should I contact if I wish to join the ASC?

Please send an email to Peter Chemery at Yale Admissions, or one of the directors listed below. Indicate that you wish to join the Alumni Schools Committee and provide them your name, address, email and telephone number.
