- Friday, May 8 is a 6 p.m. Yale dinner at the Weathervane Restaurant in Southern Seasons, followed by August Wilson's honored play, “Jitney.” Bob will do an email blast and manage the event.
- Yale Global Day of Service will be Saturday, May 16, 2009. A world-wide Yale project, in North Carolina it will be coordinated with Chatham County Habitat for Humanity and the work site will be in Pittsboro. Steve will obtain details from Bonnie, write a paragraph for the Web site and get it to Bob. Bob will do an email blast. Discussion was held about allowing people to volunteer for a half day or the whole day, and a $5.00 charge per family for a picnic afterward. Only three directors have signed up, about which we are being prodded by New Haven.
- Discussion was held about the August annual meeting and the possibility of bringing in a high profile speaker for an attention-getting event. Names submitted included U.S. Congressman David Price; U.S. Senator Kay Hagan; Joe Haj, producing artistic director of Playmakers Repertory Company; golf writer Jim Dodson; or actor Ira David Wood. General agreement was that David Price would be our first choice. Steve will get in touch with him and report at the May meeting.
- Discussion was started on an entrepreneurship panel to be held in September, probably in one of the hosting facilities in the RTP. Yale with their similar program would contribute time and talent. Discussion continues, so far through the AYA. Those interested in organizing and participating should now make themselves known.
Respectfully submitted for the recording secretary,
Gloria Lesher, publicity chair
