Reorganization

Steve led a discussion about reorganizing the club, including who will assume the various tasks previously handled by Bob Lesher. It was decided that for the time being, Gloria Lesher will continue to update the Web site.

Upcoming programs

  1. Steve has yet to hear back from Deep Dish Theater, University Mall in Chapel Hill. Once he hears back from them, we will decide on a slate of plays for Yale events.
  2. Another Yale Global Day of Service is in the works for May 15, 2010. Bonnie is once again coordinating this event.
  3. Discussion was held about the annual meeting, which is postponed. U.S. Congressman David Price is not available as a speaker.
  4. Discussion held about the entrepreneurship panel Bob was working on. Gloria L. will look into this possibility for a spring event and will work with Gloria W.
  5. Stacy is organizing Yale participation in "The Gleaning" on Sat. Oct 17. The Society of St. Andrew operates a statewide, volunteer-driven Gleaning Network in North Carolina that coordinates with local farmers, thousands of volunteers, and food providing agencies. The North Carolina Gleaning Network salvages eight to ten million pounds of fresh produce for the hungry each year -- everything from strawberries to sweet potatoes to collard greens. Yale volunteers will enter fields under after farmers have finished harvesting and to pick up produce left behind. Other volunteers represent groups from various church denominations, synagogues, youth groups, other civic organizations, individuals, and inner city residents. Stacy will let us know which farm, and on the Web site and in an e-mail blast, she will ask for an RSVP. We will combine the gleaning with a picnic lunch, and Stacy will look into having the TYC purchase box lunches for participants.
  6. Gloria L. will distribute one press release each month for the "On the Boards" section of the News & Observer. Each release will feature a TYC director with his/her head shot.
  7. We discussed our dues structure and came to the conclusion that Yale graduates of 10 years out or less should be charged $10.00 and everyone else the standard $35.00.
  8. The Yale/Harvard game is at home this year and will be Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 12:00 PM. Last year we all met to watch the game at O'Mulligans sports bar in Morrisville, near RDU.
  9. Gloria W. enlightened us about "Feb Club," where from February 1-28, in cities, towns, and incorporated entities around the world, Yale alums, significant others, friends, relatives, and random party-crashers get together in a relaxed, informal setting just to have fun. Feb Club Emeritus 2008 and 2009 have been worldwide affairs where thousands of alums from the classes of 1941 through 2008 have gotten together in cities from Seattle to Shanghai, from Paris to Philadelphia. We discussed having a TYC Feb Club event on a selected night in February.

Respectfully submitted,

Gloria Lesher, publicity chair and recording secretary
